Director, Program on Chinese Cities

Yan Song is an associate professor of city and regional planning at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a fellow of the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, a fellow of the National Center for Smart Growth at the University of Maryland, an affiliate professor at Peking University, and a visiting director for the city planning program at Shenzhen University in China. She holds a PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Song’s research interests include: comparative evaluations of urban development; smart growth and urban growth management; land use and transportation planning; and urban system modeling. Since Song joined UNC in July 2003, she has served as principle investigator or co-PI on various external research projects, funded by Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, China Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, US Environmental Protection Agency, and US National Science Foundation.
