The Carolina Transportation Program presents a talk by Norm Steinman, Planning and Design Division Manager Charlotte Department of Transportation
During the past 15 years, the City of Charlotte has been undergoing several transformations. For a fifty-year period after World War II, Charlotte exploded with growth based on low-density development and one mode of travel. By relying on a Centers and Corridors Growth Framework, planners in Charlotte have been changing development patterns and street networks. Incorporating those changes into daily practices has taken years, and has involved changes to goals, plans, methodologies and performance measures. Norm Steinman, Manager of Planning and Design for the Charlotte DOT will describe the why, what and how of the changes in the land use and transportation planning and transportation design being done in Charlotte.
