Roberto Quercia–PI. Funded by the Center for Responsible Lending, this project examined causes and impacts of the foreclosure crisis for low-income and minority households and communities. Using a uniquely broad dataset to document the effects of the crisis, particularly on low- and moderate-income homeowners and neighborhoods and on homeowners and neighborhoods of color, we are able to provide an unprecedented understanding of the scope of the damage inflicted by the foreclosure crisis. The research differentiated between the effects and the drivers of the crisis, and explained how changing spatial and temporal contexts worked to produce failures as well as sustained homeownership.
